Set-up and operation of generator workshops for UN peace-keeping missions

Description: After civil wars in Liberia (1989 – 2003) and Sierra Leone (1991 – 2002) the UN Security Council approved peacekeeping missions for each country. In Sierra Leone THW set a workshop up to maintain and repair all generators (approximately 750) of UNAMSIL. THW operated the workshop since end of 2001 and ran the workshop until the downsize of the mission at the end of 2005.

In Liberia THW conducted a first fact-finding mission at the end of 2003 and set-up the workshop after a profound fact-finding mission in mid-2004 in the beginning of 2005. THW, with its generator workshop was responsible for more than 900 generators from 2005 until end of 2007.

In both countries THW conducted training measures to local mechanics to support the local staff after the end of the projects.
