bild Diplom-Ingenieur Ralf Knoche studied civil engineering with special emphasis on water supply,
sanitation and solid waste as well as traffic and city planning at the Technical University Munich.
During his studies he spent several semesters abroad, i.e. at the Technical University Budapest as
well as in Spain to learn the Spanish. He wrote his diploma thesis on the biological phosphorus
removal from domestic wastewater at the Technical University of Denmark close to Copenhagen.

After his intermediate diploma he worked for several years as a Scientific Assistant at the Technical
University of Munich in the Faculty of Water- and Waste Disposal.

After his studies Ralf Knoche worked as Project Manager for a EU-funded cross-border traffic
management project (CORVETTE) at the Institute for Traffic Planning at the Technical University of
Munich.

Ralf Knoche has been working in the field of international emergency relief / transition aid /
development cooperation for over 10 years. Between 2002 and 2007 he was Project Manager at
the German Federal Agency for Technical Relief (THW) and managed projects in Sierra Leone,
Liberia, Iraq as well as in Indonesia, Lebanon, Sri Lanka and Iran. In addition he is trained as civil
engineer for water supply and sanitation for the assignment for the European Union Community
Civil Protection Mechanism. This cooperation mechanism facilitates the mobilisation of emergency
services to intervene in major emergencies within and outside the EU, coordinated and funded by the EU.

Between 2008 and 2011 Ralf Knoche worked for four years as Project Manager with GITEC
Consult GmbH in Cologne. His main task was to manage projects in the field of water supply and
wastewater discharge, funded by the German Development Bank (KfW).

Since 2007 Ralf Knoche has been involved in an honorary capacity with the German Engineers
without Borders Association. At first he developed and established as Project coordinator the
relevant project management processes. Since 2010 he is Chairman of the NPO. As Chairman he
is responsible for the strategic focus as well as for quality management.
